- Born in 1830 in the "Dukedom of Brunswick in the Germanic Confederation
in Europe"(Quote; Australian Naturalisation Certificate, 1865). Charles
was a spectacle maker in Germany. No known details of his family. He
left Germany arriving in the "Colony of NSW by the ship "Europa" in
1852", aged 22. [ The brig "Europa" (224 tons, built in Aberdeen in
1834) carrying coal from Newcastle to Adelaide was wrecked off King
Island in Bass Strait on 17th November 1867. ]
